Recently bought a 1967 R4 with a duff battery. Presume it should be 6 volt but can`t find any markings on it. can anyone help ? ( car is LHD 745 cc )

Congratulations on your purchase. I'm pretty sure that it was 1971 when R4s changed to 12V.

You can tell if it's a 6 or 12 volt by the number of cells; each cell is 2 volts, so a 6 volt battery will have 3 cells to top up with distilled water and a 12 volt one will have 6 cells. Many modern 12 volt batteries are sealed, so if you have NO cells to open on the top of the battery, it's probably a 12 volt one.

Whatever you do, DON'T connect the wrong one! Pictures of the old one on the forum will allow someone to confirm for definite which voltage you need.

Thanks to everyone. Finally found out it`s 6 volt as I suspected. local car spares found me an equivalent replacement at a very reasonable price. so that's one of many jobs sorted.
