thought it was about time to say hello.
my name is steve and i am the new owner of steve hennessey's red r4 gtl.
situation so far....

the r4 came with enough spare parts to make another r4-all safely squirrelled away, also came with an early r5 (low mileage engine for the 4) but having had a good look at it,i am loathed to break it! brother talked me out of it-so,i will be looking for a few parts for it(tbh, only needs an osf headlight-any body on here with one?)

back to the 4-needs heater matrix? leak looking at,raided spares bin, swapped the console over-2nd matrix leaking from same place- input elbow.i still have one more matrix to try....

done a service(20/50),cleaned the brakes, changed a few bulbs-now booked in for mot next friday-watch this space.

try 3rd matrix this weekend-fingers crossed!

many thanks to steve, she is a good-un! pictures to come-van fest and peterboro land rover show next weekend for me-i do like a bit of veriety you know.....!

steve

Thanks for the feedback, fluff, some pictures in time, perhaps?
Dont make it look too good tho, Steve will cry.

Hello Steve,

Glad you have made contact with the forum and it's great to hear that my baby will soon be on the road.

I feel gutted as I threw out a headlamp for the 5 (months ago) thinking that it would never go on the road again. I may even have declared it scrap to the DVLA so please check with them before spending any money on it. I will disagree with your bro - it is a breaker - just put that low mileage engine in the 4, keep steering and suspension parts and chuck the rest away!

I will be happy to see the photos knowing that it will live on.

I'd chuck the 5. There's not much interest in the MK1 5s and unless you really want one anything you spend is money down the drain. Worth offering remains about when you've finished taking useful bits from it - the r5 gordini website and the RCCC forum both have fans who might take the rest away.

Keep us posted on progress. I've probably got a spare heater matrix if you get stuck. Is it just the valve?

last one on and holding water-all looks good-you are prob right about the r5,i really need the space more....

'Fraid I'd have to disagree there!

Mk1 R5s are getting seriously scarce and values have gone up a reasonable amount so whilst they are not worth as much as R4s (yet) they do have plenty of fans and are worth something.

Depends what its like though, they can rot spectacularly - especially around the rear suspension etc - but if thats not too bad then the liklihood is that the rest is worth keeping. Lets have a picture of it anyway!

I agree with Lobster Mk 1 5s are very scarce now and are where the 4 was a few years ago. Difference is there are quite a lot of fours out there to be rescued and very few early 5s.Solid ones are very hard to come by and have been fetching £1500 recently
