Help Finding Alternator Replacement

Hello,

Are there new part numbers for the alternators that have an external regulator? I'm looking for one to fit on/with an 839-06 engine.

I'm actually looking for 2, but can't seem to located an equivalent replacement. The two old ones are a Ducellier 7579B and a Ducellier 7579E-
But I can't find them anywhere, even been to some very overpriced alternator specialty shops, and they say that these are too old to find replacement units, the same goes for the other parts listed in the Haynes book: Ducellier 7549, SEV 71228102, or Paris-Rhone A12R11 -is this really true?

But what really confuses me, if I chose to get the 'new' style Renault R4 alternator with a regulator built in (which there are many), the mounting position is different??
The one I have has two mounting arms on the bottom, and one on top. The new ones only have a single mounting point, which will clearly not fit using the current hardware? I think this is the one the store had that I saw- Valeo 433401, and the pictures below are what I have, definitely won't work. (Additionally, they would be able to order/get a Mahle MG400, Guttels 89771, or a Delco-Remy DRA1791 -but I presume they are all the same style as the Valeo)

I was thinking I might be able to use the new style, and just bypass the regulator, or maybe rewire -but that will only work if I can get it to fit.
Has anyone come across this, or am I missing something?

This is what I have-

Hello, you could try to contact Jan-Willem in The Netherlands at his company Renault4onderdelen (R-Quatre) or for a really original replacement try Palace de L'ancienne in France.
Don't know about shipment costs but we'll do anything for our hobby and keeping the R4 alive and well, don't we?
Cheers, Joop

If I am not mistaking the 839 is a Toro engine.
That is probably why the normal Renault 4 alternators won't fit.
Can't you have the old one rewired? And re fit the original?

Hello Robert, isn't it that the 839-06 is also used in the R1126, R2109, R2392 models until 1972?

Hi
The Ducellier number in your picture is 7597B rather than 7579B.
Have a look at eBay# 391853532497 - it's a remanufactured Ducellier under the Lucas name (LRA203); the Ducellier number is the same as yours. 45.00 GBP + 27.84 GBP postage to the U.S.A.
Alternatively, if you do a Google search for Lucas LRA203, you'll find lots of equivalent part numbers on www.yoyopart.com
Best of luck!

I considered this, but the shop talked me out of it, mostly because they could not attain the components. I might consider this, if I can find a good how-to, and all the components, but I was mostly leaning towards the easier swap out for a new one.

Yes one is a Continental R08, but the other is from a R1126 mentioned by JdeW, and both are exactly the same aside from the engine identification stamp.

My mistake, they are both 7597B/E. I will probably consider that ebay listing, but will still need to find one more...

I ended up getting a remanufactured Lucas LRA253 on ebay, it is advertised to fit an R1221, but is exactly the same and significantly cheaper for some reason.

I will hold off, atleast for the time being, on the 2nd alternator -as that engine is still in the middle of a rebuild with a large number of parts back-ordered. This will give me a little more time to satisfy my own curiosity of a little more research/figuring out why this model alternator is so hard to find or if a new one can be used.

Does someone have pictures of what the newer alternator/mounting bracket looks like?

This might be helpfull

I thought I'd advise anyone else considering an LRA253 as a replacement alternator. I'm not sure if it's just the one I received, but the front mounting position is different.

This may have been a mistake during re-manufacturing? The back plate of the LRA253 is stamped 'Ducellier 7597B', so I don't know if this was done intentionally, or if the wrong front plate was put on. See the pictures below.

I tried mounting as is, and everything lines up, but the tension bar does not reach, I guess I'll have a little extra work of putting the old front plate onto it.
