hi i am currently having a dispute with renault dealers regarding my dash board they have told me i need a new one, even though they have not told me the fault. I have now payed a sum of £490 and the battery is still going dead, so miss jones that will be another £140 to programme and fit a new battery. I have now been told that the mileage has gone from 19990 in 2007 to 81000 in 2008. I have contacted customer services, who at first seemed very helpful and suggested that the dashboard has tripped and that it could have been the battery at fault in the first instance and surely it should have been checked before anything els, who have later contacted myself to say that slaters cant do anything and they will write me a letter to state the mileage is incorrest. please please help im at my wits end.

The only helpful thing I can think of would be to try an independant garage. They tend to be a little more customer focused.

Best would be an independant Renault specialist, but failing that try one of the Bosch car service garages before taking pot luck.

A Renault specialist might help figure out why the mileage readout has changed. I think there's a web forum for modern Renaults where you might find people more orientated towards the modern cars, but I can't seem to find it on Google just now. I think Bluebell goes there so she might know the web address.

It would be helpful if you could indicate which model and the age of your car. Generally speaking, the main ecu computer of your car remembers the exact mileage and this updates the dashboard readout. The dashboard readout can on some cars be 'clocked'/reduced by unscrupulous car traders so a car appears to have done less miles when it is resold, however, when the new owner takes the car for service or repair to a main dealer the plug in diagnostic compute they use to reset service interval also resets mileage readout from the main ecu. The discrepency in mileage now displayed exposes the clocking and when this event happens the new buyer is shocked - the main ecu memory cannot usually be altered. I take it that your dashboard readout is not being correctly updated by the ecu? What is the previous history of your car? Please reply with further info.:)
