Help ... New tyre advice

Hello, I have recently purchased an R4 van, an F4 and had been intending to replace the current 145/80 tyres with something 'meatier' for constant use on winter roads and on the Farm, but have just had a blow-out and wonder if anyone could help with advice on possible options urgently! Thanks very much.

You could fit 155/80 on the standard rims but tbh with new, decent brand tyres you shouldn't really have much problem with grip on 145s. You can, if you really want fit something like 165 or 175 section tyres but you 'd also need new wheels and might get issues with rubbing on an F4.

I quite like 145/80 as the speedo is accurate with that tyre size. I run them on my Gordini and grip isn't a problem. 155/70 will probably fit (up width and down the aspect ratio so the speedo is still good and you don't rub on the rear swing arm mount) but on the GTL you sometimes have to tweak the rear wheelarch to make them fit. I'm not sure how much room the F4 has but the wings can be tweaked.

Mud and snow tyres sound like the answer for winter and farms. You can run them in summer but they do wear a bit quicker than ordinary tyres. Avoid the remould versions as they are really heavy and you can feel the weight accelerating. Also their grip is poor in the wet.

I use all season tyres all the time, but they're pretty difficult to get in the 135r13 size so I use winter tyres with a not too aggressive tread, tyreleader on the Internet is pretty good for cheap deals delivered quickly.

Thanks everyone so much ... that is really helpful and will have a look at Tyreleader and chat with local tyre guy now I have a better plan! Went to put the spare on in the rain today and realised that was flat too! Not good, but a friend came to the rescue with a sneaky pump and I got the spare on at least! Thanks again.
