On my 1986 La Poste F4 with disc brakes...
I have just taken apart all the front wheel gubbins to do new bearings, ball joints and steering gaiter, track rod ends and new shocks.

Is there a sequence to put it all back together? as I did so on one side having renewed all I wanted (even the bearing job went smoothly) but when I was going to fit the new shock the suspension seemed unusually solid have I locked something up?
On the same side the drive shaft slipped out of the gearbox but I just pushed it back in again have I done something or is it normal?
The reason I thought it stiff was that I tried to put a jack under the bottom ball joint to move arms up to remove shock but it lifted the car??
is this confusing
Thank you for your help

Hi there,
I am not sure if there is an order to follow but I have done the ball joints, steering gaiter, and track rod ends.
The shocks are the next on the list. I was looking at the top shock bushs (Read my post on shock movement problem) and as you say I too jacked the car up from the lower ball joint but with no problems at all; when you jacked from this point did you already have the car on an axle stand ? as thats what I did and it worked fine when jacking up on the lower ball joint freeing up the shock absorber. Just a thought hope it might help.

hopefully you will have sorted problem now but if not here goes

common problem is caused by shaft not locating on splines internal in box
undo top swive seperate joint then rotate hub while feeding shaft into box pref with other wheel on ground and in gear
should then be ok
ps maybe worth checking box oil if none came out as level must be too low
