Hi there, I've recently bought a 1968 R4 for restoring, and was geetting very good data from this webpage so seemed fare to me to introduce myself and get to know more R4 people!

I leave some photos on how I founded the renault, I already got rid of that glass film and trying to replace the shift stick topping :)

Will try to get new pictures when I proceed with the restoration!

Please forgive me for the typos

Hi and welcome to the forum :) That's a nice looking car you have! Is the chrome piece in the centre of the bonnet original? I've certainly never seen one on a European R4.

Hi IMac, thanks for the welcome!, I don't think its original, so I was thinking on remove it too, but since I was not sure, I will do some more research on local versions just to be sure. Anyway, that pics were from the day I bought it, now it looks a little better, since I removed the dark film on the windows and that nasty shift stick pool ball, anyway, I'm planning on going straight to the mechanics, later on will move to paint and details!.

Thanks again!

P.D. Will let you know when I get some more info :)

Welcome to the forum, and what a lovely looking little car, I bet it does look better with out the window film!

I agree with Andrea, the mirrors need to be chrome again, the chrome on the bonnet looks pretty good though!

Hi Again, thanks for the welcomes again!, I just bought it and will start rebuilding it :), I already removed the plastic mirrors and trying to found some chrome ones that fits ( was not legaly required in my country to have side mirrors on 1968 so they just came without :)). Anyway I will need to get some chrome ones that fits since I need them to pass the VTV (according to what I read on the forum should be similar to your MOT).

The previous owner of this car had no sense of taste at all, and evidence is all over the poor guy. Will do my best to get him back to the original state :).

Thanks for the ones you've already gave me, and really encourage you to keep giving me any advice you think can help me :)

Edit : I do have some local version Repair, Owner (came with my car and I scanned it personally ), and Workshop manuals ( also a full deassembly one all in spanish :S ) If you like I can post the *.pdf on the forum. Just let me know. Also have some detailed manual about the slovenian IMV Renault 4 ( In slovenian ).

Kind Regards

Matias

I was referring to the central mirror, it should be mounted on the dashboard, not on the roof... Quite fascinating vintage looking, I think. Even if I do not know how effective it is...

Yes on this model the central mirror came on the dashboard, the issue is that the one on the roof is not the one tha came with the car, so will not fit on the dashboard. i will keep thatone untill I'm able to get one of the older, dasboard ones ( most parts for this car ar no longer available ).

Thanks again for the advice!

Regards

Matias

I think you can find it new from melun or franzose...

Hello Matias, welcome to our team! It's always interesting to see local production R4s from so far away.

Hi there again,
Thanks for the advice on where to get the mirror! I've checked but will give a few more tryies to get it locally since shipping is kind of expensive :).
Angel, I don't know if you guys are interested but on the following links you can find owner manual on PDF in order to know a little bit about the local version :)

Owners Manual (Version with Ventoux Motor 845 cc from 1968 this is scanned by me, its the one that by chance came with my car when I bought it ).
