great site just joined today as i have just bought my second r4 in twenty years the first was f reg maroon good solid car i ran it for 2 years untill the gear box self destructed (very messy) then gave it to a mate with a r4 van for spares, the latest is a r4 gtl in bright yellow one lady owner untill 12 mths ago then owned for a year by a nice retired gent, and now me, it has 65,000miles on it with the full service history , i have just put 4 x new slighty bigger tyres 145 x 70 x 13 as 3 look like factory tyres all with perrished side walls and tubes fitted to stop air leaks, it will be used as my dailey transport to and from work but it will not take the weight and size for some work related stuff, so will need the sprinter van at times, i may look for a r4 van in the future for light work, thats all for now. vintnut

Good to hear you are back in a Renault 4. Good tyre choice. I run 145s too and much prefer the gearing to the 135s. The speedo is more accurate with them too.

I did much the same - sold an 850 years ago, then after a gap driving boring moderns bought a GTL. I'm actually planning a move back to 850 now - feel I'm risking my licence with the extra performance and extra gear you get with the GTL.

That made me laugh! I had my first run out in my new old GTL today after the road test and after everything people had told me about gutless, lacklustre performance I wanted to know whether this was really true. On the way home I hit a straight mile and I booted her to the floor (just to clean out the exhaust manifold you understand) and was very surprised at her nimble acceleration. At 120kmph I eased off, tipped my sunglasses onto my nose, slid open the window, slung my elbow onto the sill and cruised my way home in style... all the while gripping the steering wheel for dear life of course!

She wallows like a pregnant hippo though. Corners are interesting. I haven't hit a roundabout yet, the nearest one is 30km away so we might take a trip out on Sunday to whizz round it a few times!
