I have year 1974 845 cc 800-01 motor. What I need to do to make it little-turbo?
What little turbo? Need new carburetor ? Or what ?

They bild turbos about Fiat 850, so maybe it is possible to make it Renault R4 too ?

I have no need to burn wheels, but make motor little more power ?

T:Frank.

hi Frank,
that poor little 845cc would blow itself to bits...

get yourself a 1108 out of a GTL is my answer or even a R5 TS 1397..

i think most people would agree to that

cheers
Andrew

I had a Dauphine Gordini 35 years ago and it went like the clappers. I'm intending to make my R4 845cc the same as the old Gordini - similar power as the 1108cc (which Renault strangled in the R4) and less weight.

I have a feeling the 845cc engine was alot heavier than the 1108 engine.

The 845 engine seems to have alot more cast iron in it. even the timing chain cover is cast iron.

Having hefted quite a few Dauphine and R10 engines in and out without benefit of a hoist it's a pretty clear memory that the later motor was harder work. There's 5 bearings in the block instead of three and its wider too. You're right about the timing cover and a few other bits but the starter motor and alternator and bits like that are much heavier. Everything is just that bit larger and it all adds up.

But I'm quite open to be convinced by some actual numbers - anyone know the weight of either engine?

845cc is better?

An old man told me, that the 845cc high-stroke engine is much better, than the 1108cc engine. However I forgot, what he ment... may be the durability?
Greetings from sunny and warm Prague Pavel :)

Buy a Clio TCE if you want a turbo...less hassle

Garret T2

They use turbo Garret T2 in Renault 5, so maybe thats suitable also for R4.
What else I need ? Any tehnicle tips ?

Don't want to hijack this thread, but a query on the 845 engine v the 1100. Why was/is the 845 engine considered to be the better engine?

I ask as we had a 1973 R4, 845 of course back in the 1970's and we have a 1989 1100 R4 now, but our recollection is the the 1973 went a lot better than the 1989 car. The 1973 was almost new, whereas the 1989 motor has 143k on the clock, which may be a factor of course!

Cheers, ChrisH
