hey guys, i'm seaking anyone's help in this problem
i own a R4 model 1983 that used to have a 845cc engine, now i'm trying to install a R5 engine 1300cc but using my R4 gearbox ( to have the gear stick in the same position)
the engine is fitted correctly under the hood, but after starting it, i recognized that it operates by rotating in an opposite direction to the old R4 engine, thus by putting the car on the reverse gear it moves forward and the other 4 gears moves it backwards.
so what shall i do? can i reverse the direction of rotation of the new engine?
please answer me, thanks

Lol, I did the same thing. 2 types of gearbox (type HA0) exist for R4, one for Cléon engine, one for Billancourt engine. One of this engine turn clockwise, the other turn in the other way, so you can't mount a Billancourt boxes on a Cleon engine, unless you wanna have 4 rear gears :P

I'm not familiar with the gearbox on your car but have you looked at the possibility of turning the differential the other way round?? Otherwise you may need to get a later type gearbox.

Don't think it's possible to turn the differential. And the old gearbox isn't made for the same torque

the distributor is not enough for engine direction of rotation coz the starter is also reponsible for this.. the torque was something i was afraid of but what shall i do about the gear stick, what have u done man with this problem?

thnx 4 cooperating:)

Malcolm, are you courageous enough to start again the "hypoid gearing" discussion? :-)

Merlody, it had been discussed some time ago, and, though it is possible to swap the crownwheel to the other side of the casing, it is not good for its life.
So the best would be to fit the R5 gearbox with the R4 top cover (very little modifications needed-also discussed here in the past).
