Well, I'm not sure how any car can be a classic "from the day they are launched" (surely it takes some time for classic status to be gained?) so I'm not persuaded by Barry's argument that the R4 is not a classic!
I think that the R4 is a very practical usable classic car with a lot of character and not ugly ! and the spare parts are available and cheap. I owned another R4 back in the early 1980's which was my reliable workhorse carrying heavy loads of bricks, sand & cement around. And it never let me down, so I still love them. I was wondering how many RHD R4's were actually made ?
Barry sounds like the sort of person who thinks only something like an E Type or MGB can be a classic. He sounds exactly like somebody I'd go out of my way to avoid tbh.
The Renault 4 is definitely a classic. I posted pictures on the MIG welding forum and a few people said they would like a Renault 4. They were surprised at how expensive they have become.
The Renault 4 is a true Classic.
More so because of its pioneering design which other Manufacturers copied.
( sealed cooling system, hatchback and mid engined, only the other way around.
Mountain Goat. Timeless.
And everything was going so well until he then told a posse of blinged up gentlemen in their pimped out G-wagen that it wasn't a status car because it had a flat windscreen......
practical classics is becoming as far removed from reality as being a member of all or any political parties , great if you've got cash, if not, mmmm, hard shit basically, rebel please xx
