Interior Light not Switching Off

Right. I transferred my interior light from the boot to its intended location on the B pillar.
With a suitable luminant installed it works, which in old car terms must be considered an improvement.

However, I can't switch it off. I know this is supposed to be done by turning the clear lens part,
but I'm too thick to figure out what this is actually supposed to actuate.

This photo shows the contact that's made and broken when you turn the lens.

The light staying on is a common problem - have you tried taking the lens off and repositioning it?
