key broken ....

hi I'm a new italian user
I'm a VERY happy owner of a great 1973's R4.
Yesterday night I had a problem. When I was trying to start the car the key broke into the starter...Today I tried to take the broken key from the starter but I could't do anything...
Any help please! Thanks!

Which position is the key in? Ignition on or off?

If it's in the ignition off position it might be possible to use a strong magnet to remove the key. I assume you can't reach the key with tweasers or long reach pliers.

If it's ignition on you can remove the lock barrel by unscrewing a screw, and it might be possible to take the barrel apart to remove the key, perhaps push from the inside of the barrel, or otherwise to replace the barrel and key altogether.

today I could finally take the barrel apart but till now I am not able to remove the key. I suppose I should buy a new barrel and key altogether.

just found a neiman renault super 5 on ebay
don't know if this could be ok for my renault 4.....the seller doesn't answer me....

It's a possibility.

Have you removed your ignition lock from the steering column and had a look at the internals? If the lock on ebay looks like it is the same as yours, and it says it's for a Renault 4 then it should fit.
