Leaking transmission?

Hi everyone,

I noticed yesterday that my R4 GTL appears to be leaking from around the transmission/gearbox area. I'm new to car mechanics in general so I really have no idea if this is a serious problem or something easily solvable but I'm looking forward to getting stuck in if it's something a novice can handle.

Attached are a couple of photos from behind the protective plate underneath the gearbox. There's a lot of oil/fluid around there. Is normal or a symptom of something bad?

It seems to leak from the front cover. It helps if you wash the area, then watch after some trips to see where the leak springs.
From the photo it does not look too serious, as the oil spreads and seems worse than it actually is. If you don't see drips on the ground, leave it alone.
In any case, check the oil level and add if necessary.

Actually there was a small patch on the ground, this is how I first noticed the problem. I'll try cleaning and watching for the source like you suggest, maybe that will point me in the right direction.

might be the drive shaft seals ??
