Having lost my original carte grise I had to apply for a copy, not easy as the French online system will not let you in unless you are a French citizen and can prove it!
So i had to use a third party, who charged me E20 but I got my carte grise
However 2 years later I go for my CT (MOT) and the man says 'I cant test it, your car does not exist, your number plates are wrong'
Inspection reveals my carte grise now registers the car under an EU numberplate, and so I had to get new ones made :-(
A shame as the original plate was department specific
Seems I was lucky the police never stopped me
