I have to bite the bullet and part with a couple of my 4's....
Its on ebay now, but it would be great for one of you good guys...
Here is a rare opportunity to acquire a totally original 1968 Renault 4 in superb unrestored condition.
Having covered just 50,000 miles the car is simply lovely.
I bought it last November from the family that had cared for it for the previous 20 years. They first used it as the family car and then put it into semi retirement as a second or third car. This preserved it as a time warp example. They loved it and tears were shed as it left.
I have a large file that includes much service history, the original green card registration document and old MOT’s to back up the mileage.
I love my old French stuff and added this to a garage that is simply at bursting point. It has been used very sparingly and now needs to make way for my even earlier car which is currently being restored to full health and is due back soon.
The body is very good, wearing is original paint to most panels, this obviously shows some minor marks, dents and age. I have cut and polished it but as so often happens with red colours it is a little milky in places.
The seams to the rear wings show some rust and have been touched up, the only other rust is in the base of the front A panels. The top of the drivers side wing shows some minor bubbles, but they look to be just in the paint. Having said that this is only minor and does not detract from the overall impression of a very straight original body.
The chrome is sound but not perfect and could well respond to a good polish.
The structure is in excellent condition, the rear suspension area has had a small plate on the floor a number of years ago and the rest is very very good. The inner area to the side of the rear seat is perfect.
All floors are spot on and the internal paint is a joy. The inner wings are rust free.
The interior has just had the front bench seat rebuild professionally, at a cost of £200, and all is now immaculate, including the head lining, door cards, mats and dash board. The steering wheel is in a semi translucent plastic only used on this period of the cars, I wish my ‘66 had one!
It has static front seat belts and rear lap belts all in period correct grey webbing.
The MOT is until 11/11/10, and of course the car is tax free.
The car drives very well, appears mechanically sound and has just been serviced. It will keep up with traffic around town and cruise at 60 on the open road, a much better bet than a 2CV, Fiat 500 or early Beetle! I t has a 6volt system with a fairly new battery.
The only current problem is a sticking tail gate that refuses to open, I will try and have this sorted before the end of the listing.
If you want to view this can be done by appointment either next Sunday or during the week, the car is in LE4 which is the North side of Leicester.
As with all eBay listings please buy as you would like to sell, cash only on collection please.
This description is my opinion, yours may differ, so come and have a look before you bid, and remember photos always flatter!
I will post details on Car and Classic, and the Renault 4 forums so I may have to end the listing early if it sells from these.
Any question please email or feel free to call me on 07973 358877.
Thanks
Stuart.
