I have in my basement several gaskets for billancourt engine, and in one of the pochettes there are both copper and paper manifold gaskets.
The copper ones are made by two thin layer of copper and something between them, while the paper ones are made of cardboard stiffened with metal around the holes.
What's the difference between the two kinds? Are they the same? Is one better than the other? Is the copper kind suitable for older engines while the paper one is for the newer engines?

Copper ones were for dauphine engines maybe even 4cv
Guess cheaper to make newer version maybe copper is better ?

Copper gaskets are usually associated with the earlier heads, where both inlet and axhaust ports had the same diameter. On later heads inlet ports (middle hole of gasket) were larger. Check this before installing the gaskets.
Dauphine Gordini heads had differently placed manifold studs, two above and two below port centerline. You may ocassionally come across such gaskets, especially on older gasket sets. The port spacing on the gaskets matches the R4 head, but the stud holes will be off.
