Manifold ID help please

Hi All,

I've got an R4 1108cc engine in my DRK Morgan replica. It's currently running a Nikki carb, which has worn out and started to flake inside, blocking the jets.

I'm trying to ID the manifold, to work out what original Renault carb I might be able to source and fit.

Here's a couple of pics of it..

Can anyone help? Better still, does anyone have a suitable carb and/or manifold to replace it all with. It's definitely off a 4, not a 5, as the exhaust exits forwards, and the throttle linkage is across the rocker box, rather than along it.

Any help very gratefully received!

cheers

Mike P

Hi Mike,

That is definitely an original Renault manifold probably early Renault 5. You could try and find a double corp. Weber or Solex carb. for it. The Gordini Renault 5 and 17 had carbs like that.

It is likely from the Mk1 Renault 5, maybe from a TS which was 1.3L, or TX (1.3L or 1.4L). If that's the case the carb would be a Weber 32 DIR. Avoid any Renault 4 carb and manifold as they have 28mm single choke carbs and are too slow. Renault 5 1108cc engines had 32mm single choke carbs as standard and the larger engines twin choke carbs as above.

manifold in the photo is definitely renault 5ts if you look at the casting closely it has the year of manufacture 1975 marked on it
most twin choke weber carburettors use a standard spacing on the bolt holes providing they are of a similar age a carb off a 1600 ford capri for example would fit but wrong size jets to run properly on a standard 1100 renault engine
