I know this has been discussed before but I can't find it.

Blanche has done 160,000km or 100,000 miles. I always thought that this isn't much for an R4 engine. Wht do you think?

It depends a lot on how the car has been looked after - with regular oil changes the engines can last just about for ever. Other things are more important than mileage - it the engine smooth at idle and starts and drives OK then the engine is good.

Mileage by itself is not really high on my list of things to look for. Body, chassis, interior and mechanical condition are higher on my list, and it's nice if there are some new bits like dampers and radiator.

:) Hi, this is the kilometers of my 1987 GTL that I actually restored, bought new by my grandfather, I didn't do anything on the engine except a big cleaning, because it works very well, on the other hand, chassis and body were totally destroyed and needed a serious repair...

Grey 1971: 90.000 kms (I think they are true)

Jogging 1981: 231.000 kms

White 1975: 554.000 kms

BB's original speedo showed over 300,000 Kilometres on it!

Though the engine had a slight problem with the liner seals leaking so in the end I had to change it! It still went like the wind even with its little problem!

It now has a relatively low mileage 70,000 mile engine in it which doesn't go nearly as well as the original! But is loosening up very nicely!

...   ... with the same engine and gearbox ?????

The gearbox was the same for around 480.000 kms, when it dried from a slow oil leak and destroyed the 3rd-4th selector fork. I found it easier to replace it with a lower mileage one, although it was in perfect condition inside.

The engine's history is unknown for the first 200.000 kms. The block is the original, the head must had been changed at some point. The following 300.000 kms had been done without any problem and without any oil consumption, then I was unlucky enough to have the pump impeller losing its tight fit on the shaft...in the worst conditions (4 persons, mountains, summer). It melted a piston, so I did a complete overhaul, and now we are ready for the first million :-D

My R4 has done 295.854 km's, don't know anything about the history of the car, exept that it's from 1986.
