Almost out of blue MOT inspector found rusthole in left front wheel base, started to look & repair at it and it was growing bigger all the time. Well, no big surprize when last major rust repairs were done by me 2010. Fourteen years for a frech car is a good achievement.
Rented a mig welding aggregate and made some prefab plates of 0.75mm and had all the fun under the car, rust, thin old panels to be welded to, low place under the car, some weldings without mask eyes "wide shut" because was impossible to use the welding mask due no space, etc-you know.
When ready welded and painted again to MOT and approved for two years to come !
Not so proud of the work quality but i think for ower 60 y guy acceptable work.

Welding with your eyes closed, wow !!! That repair will be there for another 14 years buddy. Better find a ramp next time, because you will be 74 (I am 76) haha.
 
Brakes, how on earth barake bads are so lousy, i would say after max 1000km's but 14 years old?

I used to work in the braking business. Rarely have I seen a lining shear off like yours. Very unusual in normal usage. To make this happen you need heat and lots of it.
We did a test called a 'fade test'. This involved repeated braking from about 60 mph to zero, 20 times on a short time cycle, temperatures over 600 degrees C are common. You need nearly 800 to 1000 to cause a well made lining to shear.
So, was the brake lining a 'micky mouse' material ? Had the service or park brake been dragging and produced lots of heat ? check the brake drum, if it is a blue colour it has been 'super' hot. Another experience that I had was with linings sticking or freezing to the drums, caused by water ingress into the drum, which cannot then escape. Pop the car into gear and bang off comes the lining. Push on bro, use quality linings, check all is correct in the mechanical pivots and the wheel cylinder pistons are free to move. lastly adjust the brake correctly.
 
When I worked at a Peugeot dealership in the late 80s & 90s, we used to see this quite often on 104, 205, 305, 309. It was mainly on cars that weren't used much.
 
I had also seen this happen on a rear R4 drum. That's why many people prefer rivetted than glued-on brake linings.
 
I've seen the same thing on a more recent Renault; a Clio! At my recommendation a customer of mine took their car to a local tyre fitting baby for 2 new rear tyres. The fitter removed and attached the wheel using an air powered tool (quite normal practice) but the vibrations caused the lining to detach itself from the shoes, causing a terrible noise and disastrous braking when driven. I managed to sort it out eventually!
 
Job done with old(before 1989) brake shoes, as you see i did put new shoes may 2012.Drums had no blue color due possible overheating.As Andre wrote one possible reason could be MOT damper testing which is quite heavy test for an such old vehicle.After MOT i did notice that turn signal ligth did not show nor the relay did not give any noise, afterfew days the noise came back and the next day the green blinking light also ? Wheels are always mounted by myself so no air gun used.
