I suppose there are no replies already because this topic has been written about so many times previously. The simple answer to your question is another question - do you have considerable engineering skills and tools and time and patience? If yes, it IS possible and has been done, albeit with much money and gnashing of teeth.
The safe answer is no, only the motor from the first series of R5 [to 1984] can work and even then it is NOT "plug and play" but close enough so a hack backyard amateur can manage the transition with only a bit of professional help. I used the motor from a 1982 R5 TS 1.4 for my swap.
