My 1986 4GTL has a new owner!!

I have decided to sell my GTL. I wanted to sell it 3 years ago but was persuaded not to by Malcolm  but the time has now come to pass it on to a new owner.

I did 85,000 virtually trouble free miles then took it off the road 8 years ago as I did not want it to deteriorate. I had this mad idea that I would restore it to concours condition before I retired but realistically I know that I just don't have the time due to other constraints.

The mileage now is 158,000 and it's been stored in a dry garage but has gathered a layer of dust (see photos). It is likely to start up if I put a battery on it. Slight bit of noise from the timing chain at tickover, but that's it. Unlike many of the 4's I've seen on this website and on ebay, this is a very solid and straight example. A few minor dents in the bodywork, paintwork very faded but it has a respectable chassis. The rear legs have been welded properly and I replaced the driver's side floor pan. The interior is very good with no nasty rips or tears. I have carried out my own maintenance and apart from servicing every 6000miles, fitted a new clutch, another gearbox and a better carburettor from a R5 (commonly known as the Hennessey Hot-up kit)!!.
It will need servicing and checking over for the MOT but you won't find anything nasty. There is a leak from the heater radiator or control tap as a tiny amount of water can be seen inside the car.

I also have a R5 Mk1 with a very low mileage (approx 30,000) engine and gearbox that is suitable for the 4.

Included in the sale will be a load of very useful secondhand parts including body panels, engine parts, gearbox's, suspension and so on.

So, to sum up you will be getting my Renault 4, a Renault 5 for spares and loads of useful secondhand spares. This is to be sold in one lot and you will need a trailer to transport both vehicles.

I am asking a realistic £1400 for the lot. I would appreciate only serious enquiries.

Thanks

Steve

The second phase of my sale will be my collection of brand new GTL spares which includes genuine body and chassis parts. I will list these once my 4 has sold, not before.

Oops - tried to repost this thread but I failed too.

:DThe Renault 4 in the post above is for sale again:D - 31st July 2010.

A very nice chap called Steve called round today and bought my R4. She is going up to Merseyside and will be loved and cherished.

Hopefully Steve will become active on this forum and I wish him all the best. I believe I have made the right decision to sell it to him.

I will be shedding the tears when I see it disappear on the transporter but will, at least, retain the memories of my ownership of her.

Well spotted! I guess that maybe they weren't factory fitted, and where they have been put is an easier place to install them.

Steve, do you have another R4?

Wow - that was quick! Hopefully Steve from Merseyside will post photos of her all polished up.

You can always buy another one Steve. :D

No, I don't have another R4. I've been involved with them since around 1974 but I know Malcolm is itching to sell me his Gordini for £100 as it is going to be too fast for him;).

I have decided to get rid of all my motor trade stuff but will keep a few tools to work on my motorbike.

I hope that Malcolm will still allow me to be moderator even though I will no longer own a 4 - not sure what the rules are on that. I remember as a kid asking my dad what 'Minister without portfolio' meant. I reckon in this case I will be 'Moderator without Motor'!!!

Honorary R4 moderator.
I'm sure you're more than welcome to keep moderating - the forum would be a lot less knowledgeable without your expertise :)

Steve Hennessey PhD R4

By my reckening Steve has a part share in all our R4s! ie the Intellectual Property he has shared :) .

Therefore, subject to Malcolm bestowing, Steve is a lifetime member and surely qualifies for an Honoury Doctorate (My dictionary says the term doctorate comes from the Latin docere, meaning "to teach", shortened from the full Latin title licentia docendi, which means "teaching license")

So Steve, you should now have a Driving and Teaching License!

Best wishes.

Mark

Steve it is a big decision to get rid of your motor trade stuff you will regret it later and it costs a fortune these days to replace it.
I have a clear out every so often and always regret something going after the event.
When you manage to shed the job you may well be glad of another R4 or something else and remember tools are not eating and drinking while they are in your workshop.

Of course - don't know what we'd do without you on here.

The Gordini still isn't working so that's no good (should have the head back this week) I'll save Yvette for you instead. :D

Thanks for all your kind comments - I promise to stay as a motorator as long as my intellectual property is not stolen and when (or if) it stops working.

Malcolm - Yvette will do fine but I had better not sell all my tools beforehand;)

Gary - I have to be ruthless but I will keep many of my hand tools, grinders etc. Some of my tools date back to when I was a teenager and they are part of who I am.

I will offer unwanted items to people on the forum first and then dispose of them via ebay and various other local methods.

How about a Clarke Engine crane for starters? and a virtually new Hydrovane compressor?:)
