Hello fellow Push-rod Engine Fetishists,
My 'everyday' car is Amandine, a late 1993 R5 Campus Prima in blue which i paid £250 for just over 2 years ago. I love her !10 miles to the litre and cheap as chips to run. I walk to work so i only use Amandine to visit friends, shopping and voluntary work in mental heath.
I concider myself an inverse snob as it cost more to tax and insure Amandine than what i paid for her and i'm rather proud of that
I hate modern cars with abs, power steering, sat-nav, iPod dock, air-bags and other sensory depravation devices. Better to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slowly
Amandine has been with me to France a few times and without breakdown cover too. In June we were in Brittany and had a great time. I saw a crackingly good White R4 van in Morlaix for €2000 and was very tempted.
For my sins i am the 912 Register Secretary for the Porsche Club of Great Britain and my mechanical mistress is a Chocolate Brown 912E which i call Fudge, {Amandine is my mechanical wife} FWIW the 912E has a VW aircooled 2 litre engine of only 90hp. An R5 Turbo would leave it for dead
Better to drive .......
I have fond memories of a '74 Maroon R4 that my friend owned when we were 17. He was the bassist in a group and we would load the R4 up with amps and/or drums etc whist other bands had transit or bedford vans:shock:
Another friend joined the London met back in 1981 a bought a powder blue '66 R4 with 'Deck-chair' seats. Now that was a characterful car. I tried to buy it off him but he part ex'ed it against a 1600 Capri
Last month i saw this very nice French flurt of a car ....
a Caravelle in RHD and with its original hardtop.
I fell in love but sadly have not the funds or room to keep her
Warmest Regards
Rick Horvath
