Does anyone have a nearside front window(just the fixed half)mine was smashed in an act of mindless vandalism last night(or are they out to get me!!!)? I have some perspex that I'm hoping to fit in this afternoon so I don't mind waiting a few days while someone gets time to dig one out(its a gtl)
Thanks ian

I have a window and once I have finished my weeks gig at the Albert Hall I will pop in post on the following understanding:

...You pay the postage
...If the same thing happens to my car in the future, you will go to hell and back to get me a replacement.
...You let me know your address in Barn Staple.

Ian,the window arrived this morning and due to your enthusiastic wrapping it was in perfect condition!I must admit I was starting to wonder if the window really existed or if it was part of your bath/surf delusional disorder(not to mention wembley stadium).A cheque will be in the post in the morning.
Any tips on fitting the window would be appreciated.
Thanks to your generosity my little R4 will soon be complete once again.
In answer to your request a pic of my R4 can be found on page3 technical help/brake pipes

..window..

Ian

Glad it arrived in good condition

Just gently pull down the rubber surround on the inside of the door and you will come across 5 (?) slide clips that hold the window frame to the door frame. Prise then off and the whole window frame / surround will come out.

Pop in the glasss and carry out the above in reverse - A trick that Clementine taught me but dont tell anyone else!!

Have just arrived in Western France (1.30am) and will be surfing at La Tranche tomorrow if I can get out of bed!!

..Cheque and Toffee - Estate Agents - Sticklepath Hill...

Hello Ian et Sally

Cheque and Clotted Cream Toffees have arrived and most appreciated.

Hope the window installation went well and when are we going to see a picture of your 4 up here on the site?

See you in Barn-Staple soon and here is an old photo of my wife and the salesman discussing how much discount she could have off a red R4 price in Prideaux, the Renaut dealership in Castle Quay back in 1985 - Amazing how many they had in stock isnt it? Guess how much they were new in 1985?

Oh goody, is this a new competition?
Can I guess £650?
Did that red car put your wife off R4s for life? She wasn't best pleased to be landed with three R4 nutcases staying at the Moulin Bodin last Autumn!!

..How much?...

No it isnt a competition Bluebell but why dont we all guess?

In 1971 an Escort RS2000 cost £2000 and so a new R4 14 years later would have cost £1250, in my estimation.

Here is our friend Ian's car on Braunton beach before the 'new' window was fitted!!

There was a fair bit of inflation between the '60s and '80s. I don't have a lot of data, but I do have a little pricing info:

1968: £325
1972: £650
1974: £725

From here we need to rely on statistics, or better - a wild guess. My guess at 1985 prices is £2000. If you have any data I'd be interested Ian.

Sorry to have taken so long to reply but I've been a busy bee.
window is now fitted and looking good(was a bit dirty though).
£1850

..Well you are all miles out...

Trevor, the nice man at Haynes Publishing very kindly sent me the following -

Dear Ian

Thank you for your email.

According to What Car? magazine of September 1985 the list price for a Renault 4 GTL from June 1st 1985 was £3765.

I hope this answers your query.

Regards

Trevor
