Needs choke out to run or will stop

Just got the R4 out of the barn after 5 months. Usual stuck front brake piston but used to to that. Getting a new caliper soon,

She started fine on choke as usual but won't run if I put the choke in (fully warmed up), just won't respond to throttle then stops.

As long as choke is out she's fine, drives okay

?

Thx.

As it was (presumably) running properly when it want in the barn, I'd suggest the residual fuel in the tank is past its best and so enriching it with the choke out is giving the engine extra rich fuel, which is weak in the first place, thus giving the engine normal strength fuel. Fill the tank with premium unleaded (I'd recommend Esso 99 octane) and see if it helps. Remember that you'll still have some old fuel in the float and the pipes, so the improvement won't be instantaneous.

It'll be a blocked main jet. It is located in the float chamber. Worth cleaning out the float chamber and unscrewing the jey and giving that a clean. There is a brass plug you can undo to get a screwdriver in.

Thanks I did put a gallon of Super 98 on top of what little was already in, drove it about 15 miles with the problem not going away.

Ill try and look at that, thanks

Right, I did take the carb off and found the main jet as you describe, there wasn't a totally clear view through it, so I blew it out and got a nice clean hole. The float chamber seemed clean but I wiped it out anyway.

Reassembled and things are a lot lot better, still wants a little bit of choke on but it always has, I think my CT man leans the mixture so I pass CT.

Is it clockwise or anti clock to richen the mix?

Thx

N

Screwing it IN weakens the mixture and screwing it OUT enriches it. Usually that means ANTIclockwise to enriches and clockwise to weaken. I hope you sort it!
