Well today my other half brought the r4 gtl 1985 lhd on sale on this site in Brighton, so now have one more in herts, plus I got to drive it bak, wow very different to my little beastly, but havea question, previous owner's puts unleaded and lead replacement additive into it, does it keep the valves cleaner true or not

Lead replacement additive stops valve seat recession by cooling and lubricating the valve seats during the combustion cycle. It doesn't particularly decarbonise your engine.
Many on this forum don't believe that it is necessary unless you regularly undertake fast motorway work, and in terms of keeping your engine carbon free, the best favour you can do it is to use a decent quality fuel and not to do lots of short trips with a cold engine and the choke out.

Hi Jeanette, congrats on your new purchase, one each now eh. I put an additive in the fuel even for just pottering about in the 4. I use the Castrol one which also contains an octaine boost, and I always run the car on 97 or 98 octaine fuel. It sounds like overkill I know but the car runs sweetly with this formula. Happy 4ing, and maybe see you at the Kent gathering.

Hi Jeanette,
I'm only in Kimpton so not a million miles away. Its nice to put a car to a name so to speak. That somewhat wrecks my last statement though, as then there were only three...

Hang on, just realised Chris in Knebworth has got a new addition so four in Herts after all!
