Hi there

I have just aqquried a LHD 87 TL to prevent it going for spares.

It comes from Italy and will be going for MOT soon, so i imagine i will be asking a few questions in the coming weeks.

1st question is the 956cc engine the same as in the 5

Not sure. I don't think the 956cc was ever fitted in UK market Mk1 R5s. Early ones had 850cc then laterly 1108 (same as the R4) or 1300 or 1400 lumps for more power!

I had a friend who owned a Mk1 R5 and I'm virtually certain the engine was 956cc. But this was way back in the early 70s, so it is unlikely that your engine is the same even though the capacity is identical.

You need to find Renault Parts Book PR1104 (1983-1993) which will give you all the details of appropriate spares. Try eBay.
