Hello

Last week I bought a '86 850cc TL R4 for about £100 :)
I'm into R4 for quite some time and when this offer came up i didnt hesitate. Mechanically It's in good condition, just the inevitable rust here and there. I'm planning on restauring it when I finished my studies, which is hopefully in the summer of 2007.
In the meantime I want to keep it running. Since I know nothing about it, I'm going to bring it to a Renault garage from which I know the owner, to give it a check up and everything, to be sure i can drive it safely.

So, any tips for the maintenance of the car? I heard the motor neads lead additive.. Anything else I can do? At the moment I don't know anything about the mechanical part of it, but i'm planning on learning it over the next year or so.

Cheers.

The car looks line in the photo. Often there is rust around the top of the front and rear wings but jours looks OK.

A petrol additive is a good idea for autoroute driving at top speed, but for driving around town and on country roads I don't use an additive.

For maintenance - pressure washing the mud from under the wheelarches and around the rear suspension can help slow down rusting. You'll need to change the oil in the engine regularly (every 10,000km). Otherwise it's worth buying a manual or handbook and following the servicing instructions. It's simple to do the work yourself. We have "Haynes manuals" in the UK which are helpful. You can find them on eBay.co.uk.
