Hi there, thanks for join to the group, I have a Renault 4,that came from Rhodesia way back to SA, paperwork shows as a 1974 model, It has the 850 engine, it has been stood for approximately 15 years, I have got her started, after cleaing up the fuel system, and getting spark, but I've run into a problem, the started has ground to a halt, it's a Duceliar 6135,which is a 6 volt starter, the rest of the car seems 12 volt for some reason, is there a 12 volt starter that works on a 850,the starter has 2 mounting holes in it,and a 9 tooth bendix drive, thanks for any advice on this, rgds Justin

Hi Justin
UK/French models changed from 6 to 12 volts in 71, I think (I had a 1970 TL which was 6V; the 72 TL I have is 12V).
The Renault part number for the 2-hole 12V starter is 7701499199 - the following list should help you track one down:

Welcome to the forum and good luck with finding parts.
You're living in the province of KwaZulu-Natal which is a fabulous region. Been there in 2015 on a 2 months roundtrip with my wife, a criss cross round trip from Joburg - Kruger park - Indian Ocean - KwaZulu Natal - Drakensbergen.

Thanks Andy

Its seems that 2 hole 6 volt and 2 hole 12 volt are directly interchangeable, which is great news,I will start shopping around for a 12 volt 2 hole unit.
