Have just had my 85 4tl for two weeks, sorted some things out, but the rear door support-closer is driving me insane with a constant rattle. Is this an easy fix, or something to live with? As things stand, I will remove entirely and carry a broom shank, which would work but is not the answer.

The rear door probably just needs adjusting or a new rubber stcking on 30quid from memory.

rattle

hi regardiing your rattle, you can try 1 or 2 things. 1, drop down your rear parcel shelf, somtimes they rattle in the fittings, if it stops rattle folded down you can put some tape on the lugs to take up the slack and put smear of grease on lugs that should do it. if that dosent work the boot catch on the boot floor just slacken off and tap the catch forward slightly, and a smear of grease on the catch. if you want to ring me for other ideas home 01395271116//// work 01395263381. hope these tips helps you. robert.

If it is the tailgate strut try loosening the two M6 screws where it attaches to the boot lid and repositioning it.

Further to rattle

Ive repositioned the strut, moved the door catch, glued on new bottom trim and now I think it's the coil spring rattling in its holder. The cover is missing and I'm thinking how to put a little sideways pressure on it.

Noise sorted, I hope.

Don't think it was the door strut, silenced the noise by tightening the end of rear shocker which was fitted in France for MOT in April. Anyone got a cover for the door strut spring?

If your rattle persists, the back seat backrest has two struts on the sides that attach to the side of the car to keep it in an upright position. If they're not tightened correctly they tend to rattle. But anyway, I hope your problem is already sorted
