Just been looking in the Members Galleries and spotted French Fours car with the cool silver on black number plates, as it's only a year older than mine when did the number plates change to having to be black on yellow?

But

Its not like the UK as I have just found out with my DS. From 1995 Je pense!
If you have to change plates for any reason especially selling it and changing areas you are only allowed to buy reflective SO officially my 1972 DS HAD black on aluminium but as I bought it out of area and had to re-register it i was nt alloed to put on B/A I had to buy reflective. I did manage to get B/A from a guy online "shhh" and I will only use them for shows...I promise...
The UK rule is because you keep your same plates pre 1973 cars only can always have B/A as long as you can find someone who will do them

The black plates are so much nicer. Any car registered post 1992 here has to have white plates with the EU logo, but I often see newer cars with black plates.

I also prefer the square rear plates on cars, like the Beetle, R4 and Fiat 500.

I see the new Fiat 500 has the long rectangle at the back, unlike the original, and it doesn't look as nice. I think I would almost go to the trouble of modifying that one aspect of the car if I bought one.

I've heard what I wanted to hear when I enquired about black background plates being used on my '83 4TL. Several people have said it is ok on older cars.

I'll be fitting these old style plates to my car which will be used on the public roads. By all accounts the police here aren't concerned.

Technically, since the car has 'moved departments' and also changed owner then I'm not supposed to fit my new number.

{At the moment vehicles in France carry a department number. If the car is sold to someone living in another department then a new plate is compulsory}
