Oil/Fuel/Cooling questions.

Hi, if there is no interest in my R4 for sale This One... I am going to start work on it, but I need a little help.

The first 3 things I can think of I need advice on are to do with oil, fuel, and cooling.

I'm assuming for a 1985 gtl, it would have ran on leaded petrol, will I need to add a lead addative or anything? Or is it likely to have been converted to unleaded, it was on the road until early last year.

I am going to change the oil and filter, where is the best place to get service parts such as oil filters, and what is the best oil to use?

lastly, someone told me that if I change the coolant, I need to put an addative in the new mixture or the block and head become pourus  is there any truth in this?

Thanks for your help,

James

Hello, I think that you are right to assume unleaded is OK, it seems to be fine for most of the R4s.

As for the oil, I use Castrol GTX Magnatec 15w40.

Oil filters are available from you local Renault dealer. However, be very careful as there were 3 different types fitted to the R4: they have different threads. If the present filter is a genuine Renault filter, write down the Renault part number from the filter.

Never heard anything about coolant additive. I use de-ionised water and standard coolant/anti-freeze.

Hope that helps, I'm sure you'll get some other more informative replies!
