Ongoing R5 auto engine R4 gearbox saga!

A quick update.
I've fitted the engine with gearbox into the car, only to discover a rather large oil leak from the cam, turns out that the auto gearbox has the bushes and seals for the camshaft attached to it!
Anyone any ideas as to how to fix it? It being a Type 847 R1229 !.4 with the extended auto camshaft.
Also when fitting the distributor driveshaft gear should it be as the 688 engine, ie at 90 degrees to the engine, or as the 810 engine with another 10 degrees?
It's sad because the car looks ok, it just can't go for the want of possibly a bush and an oil seal, (and the correct ignition timing set up!).

The one person who would know about this sort of thing for sure is Derek from Renaultspeed. Might be worth a phone call.

The HA1 manual gearbox has a bearing in the gearbox. Don't recall exactly but I think it was a sealed bearing but think it was rather than a bearing and an oil seal. What size is the hole in the R4 gearbox casing? Is it possible to find a bearing the right size or fit whatever arrangement was found on the auto?

I'd go for the 810 engine arranagement, but the only real difference will be whether the plug leads are lined up correctly and if there is enough movement of the vacuum advance to allow for adjustment.

Phoned Derek at Renospeed as you suggested Malcolm, turns out that there's a metal bush that's sat slightly proud of the block! Pulled it out this evening and put a new cam seal in to the space that the bush took up, a perfect fit.
Setting the distributor drive to the 810 spec in the morning and 'fingers crossed' I might have her running by the afternoon.
Wish me luck.

That's great Rudi. There just HAD to be a recess for the seal and I hope you managed to fit it without taking the gearbox out again. I'm in most of the day so give me a ring if you need help with the starting or timing.
