We would appreciate some guidance please on two subjects. The first is whether it is OK to use an engine cleaning fluid prior to oil changes on our 1990 R4TL. Our car is located in Gers France and we spotted a very battered and sorry looking R4 in a barn not far away. Enquiries have revealed that it is for sale but we have no idea of condition or age at this time ( we are not due to go back to France until July ). Our second question is whether there is a range of ages that a spares car would be best for us in terms of the most interchangeable parts. We know that ours is 12 volt electrics so when did the R4 go over to 12v for example. From a previous thread, we worked out that our engine number 688D7/12 is a 1100 cc unit so we will look for that as well. Any advice would be appreciated. No idea on price as yet but looking on ebay France, some people seem to be looking for 100 to 200 euros for spares cars. Many thanks Sally and Ed

Hi
I have brought 6 cars recently of french ebay ranging from 50 euros to 175 euros the thing to remember is the size of france The 50 euro car cost me 100 euros in fuel to pick it up
What seems like a bargain can quickly end up not so
You would not find a 6 volt 3 speed car for under a 1000 euros even a total restoration job
It would be best to find a car of similiar age for use a spares give or take a couple of years The best way is to look at the dashboard If it the same as yours the rest will be much the same
By the way most cars in France seem to be the 4TL
Good luck
