I have my 1975 R6 home at last - that was an epic three months
Now,. It starts, but its been sat since 2018 (covid victim), and any attempt to put any torque on it cuts out. Its not been on the road since 2018 and I expect we have fuel issues, but time will tell if this is just the carb or more sinister issues!

Any insights for a "cold" restart?

I am in Spain btw and as a Scotsman I have never seen so little rust!
thanks
Doug

Obviously change the petrol. Clag in the lines where the last remaining fuel dried out. Get new filter. Clean out carb. There is a company in Lichfield called Carb Care, and they will do a complete carb clean and re set to as new for £75-£80. Could post it to them. When I got my car after standing for a some years, I got an egg cup of crap out of the carb, so there will be deposits to remove.

You can test for a blocked main jet. Car should run to some extent on throttle with the choke but not without the choke.

I found the problem! the diaphragm in the carb was completely shot,. So now I have it running and it makes a lovely sound on tickover. That said I still need to address a few things around the carb. It would appear its not the factory spec , and apeears (at least the references I find online) to be from a fiat 127, but I doubt its much different from the rough old PDIS E which I found in a box in the boot.

next in order of magnitude, and surely for the MOT I need to replace this burst boot. Not sure how big a job this will be, but it does beg the question - what is missing from the front right section of the engine bay. All I find is a heavy duty earth cable which comes through the bulkhead but has it seems been rudely amputated?!

I have a new air filter and bits and bobs on order. the carb defo needs a new gasket, but weirdly the float does not wish to come off and has the gasket "trapped". I am terrified to break it, but the pin is not for budging. So many different Solex carbs out there - and all differernt! I have a guy locally who will treat rebuild the carb and may also line the tank depending what I find. So far though much cleaner than I would have thought. Any thoughts on unleaded and these engines appreciated?

duh! the jack and handle it dawned on me,..

You can buy complete carb servicing kits, with all the gaskets floats and bits and pieces included, that are not expensive. I got mine from Franzose.

thanks folks. I think I found the problem - the "base plate" sandwiched between minifold and carb was loose, and I am sure it must have been drawing air. Now I just need to get the whole new set up tuned nicely, but running much much better, though needing a little choke for the mo.
