Excellent - well done! That's an inspiration for me - I've not done any work on mine for 6 months.

There's a lot of tappet noise in the video. Is that just the camera microphone missing out the engine note?

You were right, there is something wrong with the engine :( I've done only 400 km and sound of metal knocking is pretty high now :(
 
That really does not sound good!! What a shame, I really feel for you having been there and got the T shirt.

I once spent a weekend taking a Volvo 340 1.4 engine and putting it into a Dacia Duster (don't ask) the oil pick had to be changed and I didn't realise that you have to prime the pump with something like vaseline or grease. It ran the bearings in about 10 miles.
 
I once changed an engine without checking that the new one wasn't seized. Something of a disappointment when I found out.

Yours doesn't sound great. The knocking sounds heavier now. Do you have an oil pressure gauge you could plug in? If there are oil problems the damage has been done so there's no harm running the engine to check the oil pressure.

Being really optimistic it could just be incorrectly assembled rockers and the timing way out. If you run the engine with the rocker cover removed you should see a lot of oil spraying around inside the rocker area. Worth checking the oil and the magnet on the sump plug for metal particles too.
 
The Dacia episode was 15 years ago.

LOL at Malcolm, I bet you were cheesed off at the futile effort you put into replacing that engine!
 
I recall being somewhat disappointed, but the next engine swap took less than a day. This was before I could afford an engine hoist, but I found it possible to swap engines using planks of wood and a trolley jack.
 
I am sorry to hear the video after all your hard work. Did you run the engine prior to overhauling? If not, did you replace the big end and main shells with the exact equivalents? ie did you use a micrometer to measure the original shells.
Does the oil pressure light stay on at tickover? This will give an indication as to the state of the bottom end. Did you check for any wear in the oil pump? What was the state of the camshaft and rocker spindles and bearings?

I am hoping that the problem you have is just at the top end so you won't need to remove the engine.

I really feel for you, have you found any problems yet? What work was done to the engine?

I once spent a lot of time and money restoring an outboard. I fitted too long a spark plug; it collided with the piston on the 1st pull.....
 
I think we all feel sorry for you Vedran! You need to locate fault, then tell us on here which parts you might need and we'll all have a search for it.
I saw a 1397cc R5Alpine-engine on leboncoin couple of days ago-have a look for it (even if being in France) Best of luck! -R.

Thank you Reidar, your vacuums are still in Belgrade. If the guy doesn't ship them soon I will be in Belgrade on the 10th of April and I will pick them up.

Leboncoin looks very interesting, how do you pay? What is with the shipment?
 
you might be "lucky" afterall -if it's only the bearings-They shouldn't be too hard to get-Annoying yes-but it might have been worse right?

If the engine was rattly as soon as you started it up it's unlikely to be sand (I wouldn't sand blast an engine, but a good rinse through might be worthwhile just in case). I reckon the problem was oil pressure and there are some dark marks on the bearings that might suggest overheating due to lack of lubrication.

Does the crank look OK?
 
I drove the car for 300 kilometers before it started to rattle. Well I've learned my lesson with the sandblasting, the engine was all apart and I only sandblasted the engine block. I didn't had a chance to see the crank, the car is 70 kilometers away and the mechanic is doing all the work. He says the crank has some scratches on it but he tried to polish it.
