Hello All...
Ive just joined, Im from Eastern Canada, and own 2 Renault 4's.
A 77 GTL, and a rare 67 Left hand dr. Plein Air.
As well as a host of other American muscle and classics from the 70's.
Hard to find info/parts on R4's in this part of the world, so im looking forward to the forums here...!

Welcome

Welcome to a very useful forum full of experienced 4 owners and a possible scource of new and used parts. I bet the Renaults would fit in the boot (trunk) of the muscle cars.

Not exactly Canada, but an old classmate of mine found this on St. Pierre off Newfoundland.

Were R4s officially sold in Canada?

They have reached the most remote places

..And a welcome from me as well

..I am sure Kevin and Kate really mean ' full of 4 experienced owners, 100's of not so experienced owners and an oddball from South East London whose only qualification for being in the Forum is to provide a constant source of Laughter, the best medicine..

My connections with Canada are few and sadly I have never been there but I did catch a 40 pound Alaskan Sockeye Salmon in the Thames at Twickenham last week which I didn't tell anyone about....and here is a pic of my wife at Twickenham weighing it..

Canada R4 here...

Hi All...Thanks for the welcomes, and Joe, your right, I mixed up my recent purchase of a R5GTL with my 77 R4,..(the 5 being a parts car)
My R4 was imported from Germany, with a German owners manual. I believe Renault was sold in Eastern Canada because of the strong French population here in Quebec. "was" meaning back in the 70's, Renault dealerships along with Lada and Skoda dealerships have since dried up. So there are still signs of Renault lingering about in this part of the country. R5's 10's, and 16's, were common at one time, but never saw the 4's. (only in Quebec) My 67 Plein Air was a special order from Renault, 20 of these cars were commissioned to usher around VIP's for the 1967 Expo worlds fair (Montreal) as Golf carts were not yet discovered. This 67 is one of the 20, and purchased from an old manager of Expo. Hiding in his garage, covered over with a tarp.. :D

Ohhh,..and this is where I keep the Plein Air,...in the boot of my 73 Chrysler Newport, 6.6 litre. Unfortunately, I can only open one door at a time in there..so any passengers must exit before the parking procedure commences.....

Not only were they sold officially, Renault produced a specially equipped R4 (equipment number 240) to comply with the Canadian regulations. It was different on most components than our R4s, being equipped with 12V Bosch electrics, bumper bars, larger headlamps and so on.

That finally explains why do we see so many Plein Air survivors from Canada!

Welcome CanadaR4, we are waiting to see photos of your cars!

Canadian R4's..

Here are a couple pics of my 4's, the Plein Air was just taken out of storage, and needs a good scrub down, as well as an eventual overhaul!
One picture showing the 4 with her two big American brothers.
The blue one is a 6.6 litre 1971 Ford Galaxie LTD. The green one is a 7.4 litre 1975 Ford Thunderbird.
