Hello everybody.

Our 1984 GLT is almost ready for MOT.. and so far it drives beautifull...but..
When i drive in 1st gear, there is a light ratlling/knocking noise in front, it doesn`t matter how fast you drive ( rattling/knocking goes along with the speed ).. i don`t hear such a thing in the other gears.

Does anyone have a clou?

Thanks,
Maurice

Just a few months back I helped a guy here in Breda with a rumbling noise in first gear. Turned out to be his left engine mount that was broken. And the traverse over the starter was missing. he had no problems in other gears. After putting in a new mount en a traverse the noise was gone.

Ok... thanks for the reply!

But what do you mean by traverse over the starter?

Maurice

It is a curved support that is bolted to the left hand engine mount at the bottom and mid-way up the block at the top.
The bracket is to stop the mount bending/collapsing.
This bracket is about the worst job to remove/replace on a Renault 4.
Space is REALLY tight.
A previous "mechanic" might ill-advisedly have not replaced it.
