rear bump stops

in common with probably most other R4's, my rear bump stops are missing. i have duly cut out the usual rusty seat-belt mounting area, which incorporates the bump stop reinforcement plate, and checked today that the stops are still available, cheaply, but am interested to know if people think that they're not worth bothering with. I would have thought that not having them would place unnecessarily high stresses on the dampers, and tend to cause the rearmost damper mounts on the chassis to want to be sheared off. Any thoughts? These bump stops were found only on "Poor road" and "special equipment" versions. So they are not 100% necessary. I guess, expected driving conditions for these versions would cause the suspension to bottom out more frequently than city driving, and that's why Renault thought they will be necessary.
Personally I have managed to use them only when crossing a ditch at 80 km/h with four persons inside and while carrying about 300 kg of (Renault 4!!) spare parts...
