Try phoning Peter James and asking for a quote for a classic car policy: 0121 422 2282.
When it was time to renew last October (for 4 classic cars) I did a comparison of about 10 or so companies offering classic insurance. Peter James came out on top for customer service, level of cover etc and best quote. They are small enough to give a personal service and they know what they are talking about.

Your insurer are talking bobbins - the car wouldn't have had seatbelts when new and doesn't legally need them now. But as above, try a classic insurer if thats not what you are already doing. I've used RH Classic for the last few years and they are very good.

Endorse what is being said regarding legality.
Also been with RH for many years excellent service.

Your insurer's recollection of reality is clearly at variance with the established facts. A 1975 car, regardless of make, is not required to have rear seat belts fitted. Rear seat belts were not required to be fitted to new cars until 1st Jan 1987, although by then most manufacturers were fitting them anyway.

Thanks guys for your advice will get on the phone tomorrow ,just one more question ,my r4 was first registered 1/12/1975 does this mean she is tax exempt in 2016 ..?
Thanks Mark

There's an election coming up; I'd wait until AFTER 5th May before taxing it...... Who knows, one party might be trying to woo the classic car voter....
