I have just bought a F4 and need to find out the engine size and confirm the year of manufacture.

The square plate is stamped - VF4 21060000503072

The oval plate 2106 / 41 100 050 / J020010 / 031

Can someone decipher this please.

Regards
Martin

Hi Martin

A 2106 should have an 845cc engine. However, some have had larger engine transplants. The engine number (silver plate on engine block in the vicinity of the distributor) would confirm the engine size.

Strange VIN for a R4F4. The W.M.I. first 3 digits VF4 is the Talbot Brand
For R4's manufactured in Europe France the first 3 must be VF1 maybe a typo?
Check the VIN that is stamped in the chassis

I think it's a late 1986 manufactured car, looking at P.R.1104 the R2106 starts at J016317 in 1986 and is discontinued in 1987.

Were F4s still made after 1986? Mine is 1987 but I’m curious regarding whether they stockpiled 1986 models to sell later. The last Renault 4 F4 was sold new in Ireland in 1989 and I believe they disappeared from catalogues in France in 1988.
