I am open to any serious offer for this car, it has a blown head gasket but was running up till then, great winter project for anyone with a bit of diy knowledge, repair manual included and head gasket kit. Had many new parts fitted, new wing, headlights and suspension hanger, if no one buys it it will end up on a field as a chicken coop!!!!WP_20150927_10_04_02_Pro.jpg WP_20150927_10_04_12_Pro.jpg WP_20150927_10_04_27_Pro.jpg WP_20150927_10_04_35_Pro.jpg WP_20150927_10_04_55_Pro.jpg WP_20150927_10_04_59_Pro.jpg WP_20150927_10_05_02_Pro.jpg WP_20150927_10_05_21_Pro.jpg WP_20150927_10_05_27_Pro.jpg

Good morning Paul,
I'll put my cards on the table. We are not back in UK till 10/12. If you still have the car, I would buy to break. Do you have somewhere to store. I am not a cheeky dealer and a guide price would be helpful for me, you and other members.
No need to grade the eggs, i'll take them all,

Paul,
Just confirm it's the 1108cc wet liner engine, as fitted to Daf 55 & 66 cars. If it is, I've done a head gasket on one of these & it's quite (*) easy. Once the head's off hardening the valve seats for unleaded fuel is worth doing, too. I'm thinking.... It's your Renault or a 1995 Lada Riva estate on E-bay.... SO MANY CHOICES!!!!

(*) = A relative term, depending on one's ability.....

Hi Andrew, i think it is the 1108cc dont know about wet liner or not but the head gasket is pretty straight forward to do. The car needs to be trailer-ed away as non runner
due to head gasket, was running well upto then. much better bet than a LADA!!! come on.

Fair comment Paul. Thanks for your reply.
Let's see what develops over the coming weeks,
Best regards,

Bit expensive to break for parts
Don't forget there can't be many more RHD save able cars left compared to the endless ? supply of imported models
A head gasket is relatively simple job compared with a full restoration and immaculate shiny ones don't come cheap either
Just my thoughts good luck with find it a new home and look forward to seeing the new owner telling us all about it on here ☺

update on my R4, have decided to have the head gasket replaced and then will be selling as a runner, will update when done.
thanks
paul

The right decision. GTLs (1108c engine) are prone to head gasket failures because the cylinder head retaining bolts are barely adequate, being on the short side. Might be an idea to ask your garage if anything can be done about this (longer bolts? Threadlock?). Don't forget also to get the cylinder head skimmed to ensure the best fit.

Well that's a new theory to me
Problem is gaskets don't last as long as they should do lack of asbestos maybe in recently produced gaskets
I have had several bga gasket fail after 2 yrs all had been done by me on steel block alloy head clios and one 1108 5 mk2
All had coroded away not impressed with correct antifreeze

Ok thank Paul
please could you let me be the first to know when/if you decide to sell her as your car looks amazing and I just love the R4 in blue, plus I have a spare GTL engine which could drop straight into her if the head gasket does not go that well.
Thanks
David
