Hi there,

I owned a Renault 4 in France (I'm French) and I did the 4L Trophy from Paris to Marrakesh in 2008. I'm another R4 lover!! I moved to the UK then and I'm looking to buy a R4 GTL year C which is landing in a garden not far from where I'm living. I've no idea about how much I could offer for this car. What are the UK prices for this car ( 40000 Miles, good conditions, 1985, MOT done I guess). Would you be able to get back to me sometime please? What would be a reasonable offer?

Thanks, Paul.

Depends on condition Paul. First thing you do is check for rust on the chassis - search this forum - there is plenty of information here. If you want to buy a car that needs very little work then you need to pay a reasonable amount - maybe up to £2000. Just be careful and also be patient!!

Salut!
I recently paid £2250 for my 86 GTL - it only had 30,000 miles on the clock and was in excellent rust free condition. Not sure whether I overpaid or not, but its a lovely car. When these type of cars hit e-bay, their vendors seem to expect £3000 for them. Not sure they sell, though.
Why dont you take a look at Blanche, the car I was about to buy before the above appeared. Its French (like you!) is a TL (which you had before) and is lhd (which will possibly feel more natural to you) Just recieved its CT too, so its in great shape.
A bonus - you'll have to go to France to collect it!
Bon chance.

Hi Guys! Thanks for your infos...

Salut les fan de 4L,

Great to know about the price, but still expensive for a Renault 4. I know prices for 2CV rose up those last few years but I didn't realise that the R4 too.
I didn't have prices on my mind cause the one I had in France has been given to us (me and my copilote) by a garage as sponsor for the Rally. I hope this contact in UK whose car is still sitting in his land (such a shame with the winter coming) will make up his mind about letting it go for a reasonnable cost. I can't collect a car in France cause I'm definitly staying in England (newly married to an English lady) but If I know somebody looking for one for the next trophy give me more info (where about). And I'm quite exciting to get a frenglish R4, quite different to me and fun to drive on the right! And better for long term in UK. But the smell inside the car, whether it's french or british remains the same, Old mechanic. I love it.
A+ ...paul<:-)

I am Latvian and also like You- I moved to UK about 1 year ago. I recently paid £600 for this car:

with new mot, I started restoration couple weeks ago- need to do lot of welding and full repaint after that, also some parts missing.
Perhaps, I little bit overpaid for car in current condition, because bodywork at the moment is really poor, in fact my budget for project car was only £400, but positive aspects was new mot and full length soft sunroof (rare modification in UK) and full boot with spares, so it was like future investment for me, because all body work I can do by myself, I can sell unnecessary spares in ebay. most expensive part will be colour (paint), but I will try to find some good offer in this section as well- After restoration I am hoping for profit at least - £600 (target is £1000). already now I can sell car for £900 an get small profit (potential buyer reason- sunroof)- cant decide to sell the car now or not...
in Ebay at the moment are interesting R4 Left Hand Drive, for £1,495.00 with option to make an offer-
