Renault 4 Trophy Cars

Hi,

I've been looking on French ebay and there are quite a lot of Renault 4 trophy cars on there. I'm quite tempted to get one (mainly because some look really cool!).

What I gather is the Renault 4 trophy is an annual competition for students to travel from Paris to Africa in a Renault 4. Engines can't be tuned but other modifications can be done. Sponsors are sought to pay for this (hence all the stickers). I guess its a charity thing. Please correct me or add more?

So are the Trophy cars generally good? As they have been prepared for 'safari' and thus strengthened? Or as they have been to Africa and back they are now knackered!?!?

I suspect they are just knackered. Students aren't going to spend money on sorting them out, and MrReno's video showed some bouncing quite extravagently so any money hasn't been spent on replacing the dampers.

Best sticking with the little old lady cars for an actual buying thing, though the Trophey does look like fun.
