Renault boat engine

Hi , wonder if anyone knows which Renault car engine series this marine engine number relates to--trying to source a replacement distributer . I believe it to be from the Renault 4 type, being a4cyl OHV and numbered 688-42. If I know the choices I can go to the breakers unless anyone has one.

The 688 refers to 1108 cc this is likely to be a version closely related to 1960 to 1970 rear engined R8 or R10
Having said this a 1108 R4 distributor should fit and work fine
There are very few breakers yards likely to have anything this old
Is there a make or number on distributor

thanks Mr Reno---that's a start so will have a look tomorrow--my only chance is a scrapyard at Nottingham which does not clear things often.
Any idea what one would expect to pay?

The engine type was used on quite a few renaults a lot of the late 80s and 90s versions used in renault 5 were electronic using crank sensor so not suitable
1289 cc renault 12 would bolt in and work
I may have something that would work if you have no luck
What's happened to your distributor?

the boat was part sunk when I got it and although the water was only up to the crank there was so much damp the cap springs rusted off so not sure if I can trust the innards. Seemed an easier option to find another . As the rest of the engine is of unknown condition may not be worth spending lots on it--maybe rather put a diesel in but some say I should keep it original
