renault jp4 wheels help

Hi all - I'm living in France and have just got a JP4 which is great. It has Renault Alpine wheels fitted the only trouble with this set-up is that the rims rub on the steering when on full lock. I've tried standard wheel rims and it doesn't happen as the wheels are not as wide. Is there any way to solve this problem as I'd like to keep the wider tires ??????

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

spacers to push the wheels out further?

What size tyres on the alpine wheels I've got 185/60×13 on my yellow peril had to flatten the flat lip at rear 165/65 works perfectly on standard 4 but jp4 got plastic arches so not sure spacers would help

Hi mr-reno-139 - there are 165/65x13 on the front. What seems to be happening (on closer inspection) is the inside of the wheel rim is touching the end of the anti-roll bar when turning on a full lock both ways??????

Have you checked tracking as too much toe out will give this problem is your car drum or disc brakes ?

They are drum brakes and no I haven't checked the tracking but will do an see if that solves the problem - thanks for the suggestion.

seem to remember you can't put gordini wheels on drum brake cars without that problem may have to use spacers

Ok - I'll get the tracking checked anyway just to make sure as it is close even with the standard wheels. If I do need spacers do you know where I can get them and is it necessary to do all 4 wheels?????? Sorry for my ignorance - I'm no mechanic!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not sure they even make suitable spacers fronts will be fine may even only need 5 mm as any longer will involve changing to longer studs
maybe they do 6 hole ones for some cars just use 3 after checking hole spacing (called PCD)
try eBay maybe

Try and talk to a local small engineering company with a lathe or quickturn, or even a milling machine.

If you don't mind the JP4 standing for a short while, hand them the drum and alloy stating what you need and I'm sure they can help. There are a few companies in England I know I can go straight to about this issue on the car modding circuit but don't know about France.

Mr-Reno might be right and its only 5mm thats needed to push it out.

You wouldn't need them for the back unless the car looks odd having the fronts being pushed further than the back

Hi Eoynteenie - yes I'm sure that I'll be able to find someone/somewhere to do the job - I'll have to do some research. Thanks again for the help/suggestions - It's good to be on a forum that really works!!!!!!

:clapping:Hi All - just a note to say the problem seems to have been solved. the problem was that one of the tie-rods was bent - put new ones on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So I was basically correct with it being the alignment out
