Hello i am new to the R4 model and i am about to buy one soon (i saw it last week and is with lots of dust i only need to check if it has engine :? and ask for the price ) , this model does not have the sunroof and i was trying to see if i can make one sunroof to look like the original one , i am posting because i want help finding pictures of the sunroof so i can make one for this R4 , also want to ask if it is a problem to get parts of the R4 thanks

Update:

I just came from the place i saw the car , i didnt saw it and one guy told me they have sold it as metal  but after walking and asking i found the brother of the owner and told me it wasnt true , and they just put back to the garage :D tomorrow i am going to see it and look if the engine is in bad shape or so so , so my question is if it is possible to find pieces to fix the engine also the guy told me the car have 4 changes ( 1 2 3 4 and R ) so i am thinking maybe it is not the 850cc engine tomorrow i will have more detail , please help me if you know about finding pieces, i live in lima peru i heard about pieces in colombia but i am not so sure thanks :)

Welcome to the forum leon,

Making an original style sunroof would be difficult. There was a thread on the forum where someone mentioned they had an aftermarket sunroof fitted - http://www.renault4.co.uk/forum/about158.html I think ther photos of that car are here: http://www.renault4.co.uk/gallery/index.php?cat=10076 Might be posible to find someone to do that where you are.

The 850cc car had a 4 speed gearbox from around 1968.

I'm not sure how to find spare parts where you are. Renault (new car) dealers can supply a lot of parts. There are a lot of Renault 4s in Columbia so it must be possible to source parts from there.

Update:
the Renaut 4 was from 1964 850cc and it wont be on sale because a lady already bought some parts of the renault  , but they have one more which is working i am thinking to go and check it next week but if i open the engine probably i will find some bad parts and wont be able to close it and keep going again so i am hoping i can find it in good shape and make minor changes till i find pieces for engine

Update:

I just came from university and just saw one R4 it was hidden i went to check it , the doors all the outside is in very bad shape i would say very bad shape , i knock the door and one lady told me the engine is ok but i dont know i will call at 6:00 pm GMT -5 to talk with the owner ,now is 4:17 pm GMT -5 , if the engine is ok i am trying to take it out and put in one R4 wich is in good shape ( outside ) but has no engine, more less i am trying to build one R4 using many R4s.

the 1 000 000 pound question is:

if the engine start should i open it or no ?

according to my father if i open it i wont be able to turn it on again
thanks and i will update if i have any news later

I'd agree - if the engine works then there is no point in taking it to pieces. The engines will normally last for a long time if you look after them. It's fairly east to just remove the whole engine and gearbox from the car and put it into the other car.

While the engine is out it might be worth removing the gearbox from the engine to make sure the clutch isn't siezed, and to lubricate the clutch mechanism.
