Can some one tell me the length of the bendix rear back brake cylinder from a 1984 R4 it seems to me if it's been put together some how.
The reason I ask is because the brake shoes are bendix but the cylinder is small around 60mm, I know the bore is 22.2. it could have come from an earlier 1982 model.
thanks
billy

I bought a rear bendix cylinder a while ago and it was 22.2 bore but 72mm long so there might have been a few different sizes.

Must admit that I have never actually measured the length as I've always bought the correct ones for the car. Never mess around with brakes - if in any doubt buy the correct ones from your local motor factor.

Never heard of different length rear wheel cylinders all are the same, have same bolt pattern and are interchangeable side to side. Only difference according to car specification is the bore size.
Are you sure you bought the correct wheel cylinder, and not a front wheel one?

Angel,
My front brakes are disc brakes, I have not bought the rear cylinders yet as they are on ebay but do not look anything like the ones I have taken off.
The person that is selling them has discribed them as for a (RENAULT 4 GTL 1982-86 (BENDIX) they look far too long, the item number is 260684410595 if you want to have a quick glance at them.
I just do not want the hassle of buying something that turns out to be wrong and then have to send them back again, usually after paying the postage you almost always end up the loser in that type of scenario, plus you have to consider the time that has been wasted.
I have sent an email enquiring about them yesterday but I'm awaiting a reply.

I did enquire about a pair of bendix rear cylinders advertised on ebay from Cyprus but the guy replied and told me they were 72mm long.

It's a front RH side wheel cylinder...ebay descriptions can be deceptive some times...
