just got told by the wife I have this definate urge going up North to visit our son the egghead  late this summer,so probably no old Blighty and France for Roffen this year -Hrmmmmm!!
We plan to end up in the Eastern-most town on Earth-Vardoe placed on a small island (underwater tunnel)
------------------------------------------------------------------
Anyone in for a Very different trip going North with us? in case PM me for details. Anyone interested I'll ofcourse help with info How to..When... Accomodation etc....
-This might be your golden opportunity to experience Norway before they close it down.
------------------------------------------------------------------
In total this is a 4500km.trip 99% on nice tarmac'd roads plans are to go up via Sweden/Finland and ofcourse Norway
return open for going down Norway-Lofoten islands etc.via Polarcircle etc Lots of ferries....

You will see reindeers en masse, lapplanders -if (un)lucky a real brown bear or two, plus greenery,Fjords, rivers, streams enough to last you a lifetime. We plan to go by heart, stop for no apparent reason and just have a good time...
There's motels and cabins for hire and for the die-hards there's always the poss.of tenting en-route
Plans are not carved in stone-only direction is! -R.

Tempted Reida but only if we go in your Saab 9000 Turbo Aero

..Which I know is your 'other'car!!

Tell us more - dates, timing costs etc

..Calling Norway, calling Norway..

..Reida dear boy, how are things in Norwayland?

Are you now completely covered in Icelandick Ash and struggling to get on line or are you all off line permanently now?

You might not find this funny Reida but if there is Volcano in Iceland today, will there be an earthquake in Asda, Sainsburys, Morrisons and Tesco tomorrow?

No I am being cruel - I think it’s too soon to make jokes about the Icelandic volcano…we should at least wait until the dust settles shouldn't we.

What do Cheryl Cole and the Iceland volcano have in common? They both chucked out ash.

There’s no pleasing the English. The last time they got the Ashes they were over the moon

Normally volcanoes, like mountains, get their names from the surname of the first person who reaches the top of them. One exception is Iceland’s Eyjafjallajokull, which got its name from the last words uttered by the first person to fall into the top of it

And finally...Iceland goes bankrupt, then it manages to set itself on fire. This has insurance scam written all over it.

And now the best one: What's the difference between Man City and the volcano ash? At least the volcano ash is in Europe !!

Ian-my man! am just very busy over here....Not much sign of ashes here they say they could actually smell it, but I think it might have been something they ate.. There's a new marked opened up-as everyone had to rent a car to get home from abroad,so norway is now filled to the brim with all kinds of rentalcars-If I were to go to say Britain I would have called them up giving me a good cash deal for driving their car back where it belongs (Cheap Thrills-makes for good economy)

-Do you know the capital of Iceland ?? - Last count around £250 c",)

I'll be back with more info re.the Great Nordic Challenge later.Looks like it'll be last 2weeks of June with option to prolong. with lots of personal freedom to choose own paths and destiny (going to HELL is one) -R.

ian! -been busy with various projects-some now dead&buried others still on,but TTT (Things Takes Time) had a nice trip up to Trondheim over the mountains-all white by the side ,but luckily dry and nice drivingconditions.
as usual Roffen performed with great splendor...
-Our Nordic-Challenge is moved slightly to week 27-28-29. we have decided to rough it so much so No plans will be laid-besides I am not a keen believer in plans carved in stone as this shall be a loose and free trip totally without set rules!
we will spend up to a week going North via Sweden and Finland Stopping whenever or for no specific reason other than fancying the spot-We plan to rent a cabin, a hut, or a room along the way. we might even throw in the old tent if we feel the urge to wake up banana-shaped...as a last resort.
Roads are 99% tarmac'd and said to be of good standard, so shouldn't pose a problem..we'll bring a smallish spares-box with the usual stuff plus some tools for doing the routine-checks etc.
arriving at Vardoe (small town situated on an island by undersea tunnel)
we'll trade glass-beads or other with the natives c",)have a good look around,do some sea-angling and pray to God we won't catch some big fishy stuff...Shouldn't be a problem re accomodation as there is a motel.plus the fact we're talking R*E*M*O*T*E
Inland there's endless greenery with moss (not Kate-sorry!) rein-deers and there's several smaller or mid-sized traditional fishing-towns along the coast. I've been told they arrange whale-safaris too for those so inclined. Downwards we'll go Norway to see a lot of our coast-line and fjords Only one or two ferries but Very impressing mountains and scenery. we'll stop by in Narvik and other well-known places from the 2.WWar -again going by heart with poss for offshoots into wherever we fancy.
Sooner or later-One thing's for sure; We're all going to HELL! -R.

..Oh how rude of me Reida..

..Your latest thread about sound proofing Reida reminded me that I failed to reply to your last thread about me possibly joining you for the famous 2010 Trans Scandanavian Trip.

Sadly I cant join you as I had hoped as I have so many things to do, so many letters to write and a huge amount of hairbrushes to clean.

Have a fab Trompso day

ian! seing as we're going all alone I'll take loads of pictures to share later.Lots of exotic places like Rovaniemi/Haparanda/Eteläntie/Jäämerentie/Tervola/Nuorgamintie (try saying them fast!)-all said to be Metropolis of the High North... son drove up there all in 27hr's (in his Audi A6 3l.) we're planning to do it in 3-5days so as not to break his "record"
-You know how Audi-owners with a chip on their slim shoulders can be.....
All left now is to switch rear-wheels to front as these show a little wear-all else ready to go.Orders taken for reindeer-antlers-better than Viagra I hear, Lapp-landers(semi house-trained)etc.etc Leave card-details at counter -R.

Ian, what a fascinating coffin you have on the trailer. Friend or relative? Obviously a nautical / Nordic type! Praytell, with what vehicle do you tow it? The overhang beyond the towball suggests that it is not a R4.

Cheers

David

..I may get in trouble David but,

..Here are some pics of the 'coffin' the right way up - Its a Thai market traders boat - They fill them up with vegetables and flog them at the riverside..

The last time I put up a boat pic on this site, I was told off by Bluebell but as you asked David, I am prepared for any trouble!!

Naturally, the boat is to be christened Pad Thai!!
