Hi all, tried starting my 86 rhd r4 but no joy, spark plugs are ok and new so tried looking at fuel issue, sure enough no fuel getting past the Sofabex fuel pump, have taken it off and cleaned it but still no joy. Any advice or what replacement I can try? Photos from another members exact same fuel pump below, thanks.

Hi There. Maybe the air pipe next to the filler hole to your tank is clogged up. then you will not get fuel to the engine.
By the way that is a nice R5 pump you have there.

Regards, Robert

Left and right hand drive 4 pumps different design to clear steering column
R5 runs different pulley arrangement to allow spare wheel to fit under bonnet and also upside down type oil dripping fuel pump ☺
Back to problem I had was there is a gauze filter on bottom of sender unit pickup in tank this can block up and the best pump in the world can't suck fuel up
Maybe worth trying to blow down feed to pump pipe and see if you can hear bubbles at the back of car
MAY need tank removal to effect permanent repair as no acess to sender

Thanks for the replies, problem solved!, turns out it was the small rod which works the pump was'nt working enough to push the fuel through the pump. So, I've replaced/bypassed the mechanical pump with a facet electric one and hey presto, she's running again!

Hi all. Big troubles in Poland - my Renault 4 is stuck in a garage because of the fuel pump... A problem is quite strange, because when I'm trying the pump by pressing the "pusher" (I don't know what word I have to use to describe this part) everything works good but when I mount pump in it's place - nothing happens.

Regards, Charles

is it fuel pressure of my sofabex ok?
Right now something is not allowing fuel to be drawn up from the tank.. vacum, fuel line from the tank, etc,we will see..
